Layover in Banjarmasin
Everything you need for a productive layover — from quick connections to overnight stays.
Layover by Duration
Guides tailored to how much time you have.
4-Hour Layover
With 4 hours at Syamsudin Noor International Airport (BDJ), stay airside or nearby. The airport is about 25–30 km from central Banjarmasin and traffic plus check‑in/security times make going into the city risky. Use the time to eat at airport cafés, rest in seating areas, freshen up, and arrange onward logistics (SIM card, ATM, ride‑hailing apps like Gojek/Grab). If you want a quick look outside, you can take a short taxi/ride‑hail to nearby Banjarbaru for a brief drive‑through and coffee stop, but keep at least 2 hours buffer before your next flight.
8-Hour Layover
With 8 hours, you can get a first taste of Banjarmasin’s river life if your layover is during early morning. From BDJ, take a taxi or ride‑hail (about 45–60 minutes) to the Kuin area and arrange a klotok (motorized wooden boat) tour to the Muara Kuin Floating Market (best before 8–9 am). Enjoy views of traditional wooden houses on stilts and riverside life. After the market, visit Masjid Sultan Suriansyah nearby, then head toward central Banjarmasin for a quick stop at Menara Pandang Banjarmasin overlooking the Martapura River. Have lunch at a riverside restaurant such as Rumah Makan Bang Amat or Pondok Patin Bakar, then return to the airport, leaving at least 2.5–3 hours before departure.
Overnight Layover
With 24 hours, you can experience Banjarmasin’s classic river culture and some inland highlights. Check into a hotel in central Banjarmasin. Before dawn, take a klotok tour to Lok Baintan Floating Market on the Martapura River (depart around 4–5 am; market is liveliest at sunrise). Enjoy breakfast on the boat with snacks and coffee bought from traders. After returning, explore Siring Tendean riverside promenade, Menara Pandang Banjarmasin, and the Bekantan (proboscis monkey) statue. In the afternoon, visit Masjid Raya Sabilal Muhtadin and the historic Masjid Sultan Suriansyah. If you have more time, arrange a trip to Desa Wisata Sungai Jingah or the diamond‑trading town of Martapura (Pasar Intan Martapura) for gemstones and local crafts. In the evening, take a short sunset river cruise from Siring Tendean, have dinner at a riverside seafood or soto banjar restaurant, rest, and head back to BDJ with ample time for your flight.
