Guides tailored to how much time you have.

4h

4-Hour Layover

Ogdensburg International Airport (OGS) is small and efficient, but you’ll still want to stay close due to limited transport and security hours. With 4 hours, remain in town rather than venturing far. Take a short taxi or rideshare into downtown Ogdensburg (about 10–15 minutes). Stroll along the St. Lawrence River at the Greenbelt area and the Dobisky Visitor Center waterfront, where you can stretch your legs and enjoy river views and fresh air. If time allows, stop by the Frederic Remington Art Museum to see its galleries of Western art; it’s compact enough to enjoy in under an hour. Grab a quick bite at a nearby café or diner on Ford Street or State Street, then head back to the airport at least 60–75 minutes before departure, as services are limited and you’ll want to be checked in early.

8h

8-Hour Layover

With 8 hours, you can see the best of Ogdensburg at a relaxed pace. After arriving at OGS, take a taxi or pre-arranged shuttle into downtown. Start at the Frederic Remington Art Museum to explore its extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, and personal artifacts of the famed Western artist. From there, walk to the St. Lawrence River waterfront and follow the Greenbelt walking paths near the Dobisky Visitor Center and marina for river views and photo stops. If the weather is good, consider a short detour to the Ogdensburg Public Library and its grounds for a quiet break. Have lunch or an early dinner at a local spot such as a diner or family restaurant along Ford Street or State Street. If you have a car, you can also drive a bit east along NY-37 for scenic river viewpoints. Plan to be back at the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight, as check-in and security can be time-limited and there are few services airside.

24h

Overnight Layover

A 24-hour layover in Ogdensburg lets you explore the riverfront, local history, and nearby countryside. After landing at OGS, head into town and check into a hotel or motel along NY-37 or near downtown. Begin with the Frederic Remington Art Museum, taking time to see the galleries and any temporary exhibitions. Walk the nearby historic streets and then head to the St. Lawrence River waterfront and Greenbelt area for sunset views over the water. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in town. The next morning, drive or take a taxi along NY-37 for additional river viewpoints, or cross the Ogdensburg–Prescott International Bridge (with proper documents) for a brief visit to Prescott, Ontario, and views back toward Ogdensburg. Back in town, you might stop by the Ogdensburg Public Library or local churches and historic buildings for photos. Allow ample time to return your car (if renting), get back to OGS, and check in early, as the airport has limited facilities and fewer daily flights.
