Layover by Duration
Guides tailored to how much time you have.
4-Hour Layover
Rønne Airport (RNN) is very close to Rønne town, so a short layover can still include a quick visit. After landing, take a taxi or bus 3 to Rønne (about 10–15 minutes). Stroll through the compact town center around Store Torv and Laksegade to see the colorful half-timbered houses. Walk down to the harbor area (Rønne Havn) for sea views and a quick coffee or pastry at a café near the waterfront. If time allows, pop into Sct. Nicolai Kirke to see the simple island church interior. Head back to the airport at least 60–75 minutes before departure, as security is usually fast but you’ll want a buffer.
8-Hour Layover
With around 8 hours, you can explore Rønne more thoroughly and get a feel for Bornholm. From RNN, take a taxi or bus 3 into town and start at the harbor promenade, then wander the cobbled streets of the old town between Store Torv, Søndergade, and Møllegade. Visit Bornholms Museum to learn about the island’s maritime history and unique round churches. Continue to Hjorths Fabrik – Bornholms Keramikmuseum to see traditional ceramics and maybe buy a small piece as a souvenir. Have lunch at a local restaurant in the center, trying smoked herring or other Bornholm specialties. If the weather is good, walk or take a short taxi ride to Galløkken Strand or Nørrekås Strand for a seaside break. Return to town for a coffee and then back to the airport 1.5–2 hours before your flight.
Overnight Layover
A 24‑hour layover in Rønne lets you see the town and a bit of Bornholm’s countryside. Day 1: Arrive at RNN and head into Rønne by taxi or bus 3. Drop your bag at your hotel (for example Griffen Spahotel or Hotel Sniva) and explore the old town streets around Store Torv, Laksegade, and Søndergade. Visit Bornholms Museum and Hjorths Fabrik – Bornholms Keramikmuseum, then walk the harbor promenade and relax at Nørrekås Strand. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant such as Restaurant Texas or Det Røde Pakhus, sampling smoked fish and local beer. Day 2: After breakfast, rent a bike or car in Rønne and take a half‑day trip: ride north along the coast towards Hasle for sea views and small harbors, or go inland to see one of Bornholm’s famous round churches, such as Nyker Rundkirke (about 7 km from Rønne). Return to Rønne for a final coffee and some shopping for local delicacies (mustard, licorice, or smoked products) before heading back to RNN about 2 hours before departure.
