Layover in Jakarta

Everything you need for a productive layover — from quick connections to overnight stays.

Duration Guides

Layover by Duration

Guides tailored to how much time you have.

4h

4-Hour Layover

With 4 hours, stay near Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (JKT – CGK). Clear immigration and security can take 45–90 minutes. Remain airside or in the connected airport hotels. Relax at airport lounges in Terminals 2 and 3, or book a short stay at Jakarta Airport Hotel (Terminal 2) or Anara Airport Hotel (Terminal 3). Grab Indonesian snacks like nasi goreng, bakso, or kopi at airport cafés. Keep at least 2 hours buffer before your next flight; Jakarta traffic makes going into the city too risky for such a short layover.

8h

8-Hour Layover

With about 8 hours, you can consider a quick trip to nearby areas if your arrival and departure are both from Terminal 3 and immigration is smooth. After clearing formalities, take a taxi or ride‑hailing car to Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area (about 30–60 minutes depending on traffic). Explore Pantjoran PIK for Chinese‑Indonesian street food and photo spots, or walk along Cove at Batavia PIK for seaside views and cafés. Alternatively, visit Mall @ Alam Sutera or Summarecon Mall Serpong for air‑conditioned malls, dining, and massage. Aim to start heading back to the airport at least 3–3.5 hours before departure to account for traffic and security.

24h

Overnight Layover

With 24 hours, you can see central Jakarta highlights. After landing at JKT (Soekarno–Hatta), take a taxi or airport train to the city (45–90 minutes). Check into a hotel in Central Jakarta (Thamrin, Menteng, or Sudirman). Visit Merdeka Square and the National Monument (Monas) for city views, then walk to Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral. Head to Kota Tua (Old Town) to see Fatahillah Square, Jakarta History Museum, and Café Batavia. If time allows, explore Glodok (Chinatown) and Petak Enam for food, or Grand Indonesia and Plaza Indonesia malls for shopping. In the evening, dine in Menteng or SCBD (Senayan) and sample local dishes like nasi Padang, soto Betawi, and sate. Leave for the airport 3–4 hours before your flight, more during rush hour.
