How Aerobase Works: The Flight Search Built for Your Body Clock
We don't just find flights. We find flights that help you feel better when you land. Here's how our jet lag-optimized flight search works.
How Aerobase Works#
Most flight search engines optimize for one thing: price. We built Aerobase to optimize for something different β how you'll feel when you land.
The Problem with Price-Only Search#
When you search for flights on Google Flights, Skyscanner, or Kayak, you see:
- Price
- Duration
- Number of stops
- Departure/arrival times
But here's what's missing: how each flight will affect your body.
A $400 direct flight that arrives at 2 AM might cost you 4 days of jet lag recovery. A $450 flight that arrives at 10 AM gets you on your feet immediately.
We've all experienced it β that destroyed first day, the inability to think clearly, the mid-afternoon crash. That's jet lag, and current flight search tools ignore it entirely.
The Aerobase Approach#
We built a 4-dimensional scoring system that analyzes every flight through the lens of jet lag impact:
1. Route Analysis#
We calculate:
- Time zone shift magnitude (hours)
- Direction (eastbound vs westbound)
- Shortest path vs. actual routing
Eastbound flights are harder. Large shifts (10+ hours) are harder. We account for all of it.
2. Timing Optimization#
When you fly matters as much as where you fly. We score:
- Departure time (red-eye vs day flight)
- Arrival time (morning vs overnight)
- Connection timing (strategic layovers vs. dead-of-night stops)
A well-timed layover can actually reduce jet lag by breaking up the timezone shift.
3. Duration & Comfort#
Flight length affects recovery:
- Very long flights (14+ hours) add fatigue
- Aircraft type matters (787/A350 vs. older planes)
- Number of stops affects rest quality
We factor in aircraft age, cabin configuration, and seat types.
4. Personalization#
Everyone adjusts differently. Your profile includes:
- Chronotype (morning person vs. night owl)
- Recovery preference (aggressive vs. conservative)
- Travel frequency
- Previous trip data
This adjusts recommendations to match how you travel.
What You See in Search#
When you search on Aerobase:
Jet Lag Score (0-100)#
Every flight gets a score. Higher = less jet lag impact.
92 - Excellent (minimal impact)
75 - Good (manageable)
55 - Moderate (some adjustment needed)
35 - Challenging (expect fatigue)
Tier Classification#
We simplify to four tiers:
- π’ Minimal - Arrive ready to go
- π΅ Manageable - Some tiredness first day
- π Challenging - 2-3 days recovery
- π΄ Severe - Plan for extended recovery
Recovery Time Estimate#
Based on your profile, we estimate:
- Days until full functionality
- Optimal first-day activities
- When to seek light / avoid light
Smart Filters#
Filter flights by:
- Maximum jet lag severity
- Preferred departure windows
- Aircraft type (787, A350 for better rest)
- Stop duration (strategic layovers)
The Tools Ecosystem#
Beyond search, we've built a complete toolkit:
Flight Optimizer#
Already booked? Enter your flight details to analyze what you're dealing with. Get instant recommendations, then add to your account for full recovery planning.
Jet Lag Calculator#

What Makes Us Different#
Data-Driven#
We don't guess. Our algorithms are built on:
- Peer-reviewed circadian rhythm research
- Aircraft cabin environment data
- Real traveler outcomes
- Continuous refinement from user data
Transparent#
We show you why a flight scores the way it does. Every recommendation comes with explanation.
Comprehensive#
We're not just a calculator. We're a complete system:
- Search β Analysis β Booking β Recovery β Tracking
- All your flights in one place
- Calendar integration for recovery scheduling
User-First#
Free tools for everyone. Premium features for those who want more. No paywall for basic jet lag information.
The Vision#
We believe flight search should account for how you'll feel, not just how much you'll pay. A $50 savings isn't a savings if it costs you productivity, vacation time, or business opportunities.
Jet lag is preventable. It shouldn't ruin your first day at destination. With the right information and tools, you can arrive ready to make the most of your trip.
That's Aerobase. Flight search, optimized for your body.
